Four Main Types of Essays

What is an essay? A piece of writing that expresses the writer’s views. However the definition of an essay is often unclear and can be confused with other kinds of writing, such as a personal letter or an essay, report, novel, or short story. Essays can be classified as academic, formal informal, private, or formal. The term “essence” is used today to describe the quality of writing in an essay.

An essay structure typically is composed of four parts. The introduction and main body, followed by the conclusion, and part or conclusion. The introduction is typically written prior to the main body, while the conclusion is at the close of the essay. In certain academic writings, this order of paragraphs may be repeated.

The main purpose of an essay is to express the writer’s viewpoint or hypothesis when writing. Essays are also intended to support or prove the writer’s point of view using complex arguments. As with all other forms of academic writing there are certain guidelines to follow when the composition of an expository essay. Like any other essay, the format of an essay should follow the logical sequence of ideas. If an essay has to begin with an argument, it will not be structured.

A narrative essay follows an entirely different structure than an essay that is non-narrative. Narrative essays usually begin with an introduction, which sets the stage (narrated details) to the main body of the essay. The subsequent sections of the narrative essay often contain descriptive statements that provide a summary of what’s stated in the essay (sometimes with a personal or character view of the information being presented). These essays could be similar to the personal narrative style, in which the writer employs his/her voice to tell a story about the events and/or experiences.

The most popular argument in thesis statements is an argument based on authority. The argument is based on scientific research, literary pieces, and other sources to prove or challenge the claim. Although a thesis could be convincing and persuasive however, it might not be sufficient to qualify as a thesis if it is not supported by solid evidence (or when the evidence is not interesting to the reader). In many instances however, the existence of evidence supporting a claim is such a clear and undisputed truth that even the least or cautious reader could realize the truth. To support the thesis, it should include a variety arguments that are independent or additional or statements of facts and/or reasoning in the case literary thesis.

The introduction of an essay often serves to provide a preview of the essay to be followed. It sets the expectations for the essay writer. The introduction begins with a synopsis of the essay and its relationship to the subject. The introduction is usually unspoken in the majority of instances. This gives the essayist the liberty to let his/her thoughts flow freely without having to deal with the introduction. It also gives time to gather the necessary details and to formulate the theme(s) that will emerge throughout the the work.

The majority of essays contain at least one preface. It outlines the background and the extent of the essay’s research. The preface could indicate that the essay shares a theme with an essay or highlight an important aspect of the writing. In addition to the main premise(s) that are stated in the introduction and conclusion, the structure of the essay is typically left to the conclusion. The conclusion can be described as a assertion or thesis that summarizes the main points of the essay. It typically draws from the information in the body, and concludes with a the message that is addressed to the audience that is most relevant to it.

This list shows that there are four different types of essays. Each one has its pros and cons. It is up to each person to decide which type of essay they’ll write. One thing is certain, however: if you have difficulty presenting a particular type of essay, you’ll be unable to write the other. Your essays will be more effective if they follow a certain format.
